RTP and slot versions: where to find the right percentage

Where to check your version’s RTP and why it does not predict your game results.

Quick answer

Check RTP in the help section of the version you have launched. It does not promise a particular return for one session.

RTP is the theoretical ratio of payouts to total stakes in a game’s mathematical model. The percentage applies to a particular version and mode. It is not a promise to return that share of your deposit during an evening’s play.

One slot can have several RTP settings

Look for the exact figure in the rules of the game you opened. A provider may release several RTP versions of one slot. A list of those versions shows possible settings, not which one an operator has chosen.

Gates of Olympus 2500: RTP also varies by mode

Alternative RTP configurations and different modes within one configuration are not the same thing. Le Bandit’s four percentages describe available product configurations. The captured Gates of Olympus 2500 demo separately lists base-game, Ante, Super Spin and feature-purchase returns.

In this version, the base game and Ante differ by 0.03 percentage points. That difference cannot predict a short session’s result. The 96.52% beside the title applies to the base game; the additional modes have their own figures.

Example: four versions of Le Bandit

Hacksaw Gaming’s official Le Bandit page lists RTPs of 96.34%, 94.23%, 92.17% and 88.36%. All four refer to the same product with the same name and main features. Source

The second column shows an arithmetic percentage difference. It does not describe a future loss in an individual session. The list comes from the provider’s page, linked below. Check inside the game to find the version running at a particular casino.

Matching cover art does not identify the RTP setting. Two casinos carrying the same provider does not mean all their versions match either.

Finding the percentage in the game

Open the menu marked i, a question mark, Info, Help or Rules. The figure may appear under rules, probabilities or theoretical return. You may need to scroll through several paytable screens to reach it.

Record it with the title, provider, mode and date. A paid extra feature or bonus buy may have a separate figure; check it if you use that mode.

If help does not list RTP, look for an official document for that version or ask the operator. Until confirmed, mark the figure as unknown. Do not substitute the highest number from the provider’s list.

Why 96% does not mean ₽960 from a ₽1,000 deposit

RTP relates to bets. Their session total may exceed the deposit if payouts are played again. Take a fictional example: a ₽1,000 deposit, ₽4,000 in bets and ₽3,400 in round payouts.

The actual payout-to-stake ratio is 3,400 ÷ 4,000 = 85%. The result for those rounds is a ₽600 loss. Dividing payouts by the ₽1,000 deposit would be wrong.

This fictional example distinguishes deposits, bets and payouts. It says nothing about whether a slot meets its stated RTP. When calculating from history, separate round results from bonus credits and other transactions.

Theory and a short run of results

Theoretical RTP is set by the game model. Actual RTP can be calculated from bets already made and payouts already received. Over a short period, it may differ widely from theory; variation depends on factors including volatility and the amount of data. Source

100 or 1,000 demo spins cannot establish or disprove the stated percentage. That requires enough observations and a sound statistical procedure.

A low return in a previous sequence does not mean later spins must make up the difference. RTP does not track how much an individual player is owed to reach the stated percentage.

What RTP can help you compare

Confirmed values let you compare game versions and settings. Win frequency, win sizes, mechanics, controls and bonus terms require other information. RTP alone cannot describe all of these.

Save the source and date checked. If the game shows a value different from the Bonusmulti card, send the title and a help-screen image without personal data. This lets our editors check the specific version.

Key points

  1. Help in the running game

Find the figure for your mode. A cover image and title do not identify the version.

  2. Value and source

Save the title, provider, mode, RTP and the date checked.

  3. Actual results

Divide payouts by total stakes over the same period. The deposit amount is not the right denominator.

Questions on this topic

Does every casino use the provider’s highest RTP?

No. It may be only one available option. Check the setting at the chosen operator separately.

Must a low return be followed by compensation?

No. RTP promises neither a payout in the next round nor a debt owed to an individual player.

Does a high RTP guarantee my deposit back?

No. It is a theoretical measure for a particular version, not a guarantee of your result. Check the figure and separate modes in the help section.
